EbsSolar

The EbsSolar module, developed in collaboration with the German Aerospace Centre (DLR), is equipped with all the necessary components to design a solar farm down to the smallest detail. The primary added value of this extension lies in its ability to compare different sites in detail and to provide sound support for selecting the most modern and best-suited technology. Furthermore, EbsSolar has proven itself to be an extremely powerful tool for calculating annual yield, including the integration of thermal storage systems.

For example, the software enables the precise modelling of molten salt storage systems. This involves the use of typical heat transfer fluids such as thermal oil, water and steam, as well as molten salt, all of which are stored in the module’s comprehensive material database. Furthermore, the application can utilise the indirect storage model to accurately calculate the time-varying temperature field for the storage material.

The specific system components of EbsSolar include, amongst others:

  • Solar collectors, optionally as parabolic troughs or linear Fresnel collectors

  • Distribution pipes and header pipes

  • Heliostat fields

  • Solar towers

For a particularly effective design of complex systems, such as the heliostat field, EbsSolar can be supplemented with the additional HFLCAL software from the DLR. This is required to calculate the efficiency matrix for a very specific location and a specific heliostat layout.
